October 15, 2015Lewis Ocean Bay now partially open to vehicles

After days of road repairs from the recent flood event Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve (HP) is now partially open to vehicular traffic.  Temporary hunting closure extensions for the Waccamaw River in Horry County do still apply for Lewis Ocean Bay HP. Thus, any hunting within the Waccamaw River drainage system in Horry County for all game species except for alligator, doves, hogs and coyotes is still not allowed. The hunting closure for the Waccamaw River drainage system in Horry County is set to expire, midnight, Monday, Oct. 19, 2015.

The following roads within Lewis Ocean Bay HP (see a map at: ) are open to vehicular traffic:
           
* Old Kingston Rd (from International to Target Rd.)
           
* Target Rd. (from intersection of Old Kingston Rd. to intersection with Telephone Rd.)
           
* Telephone Rd. (from intersection with Target Rd. to intersection of Cates Bay Rd.)
           
* Cates Bay Rd. (from Telephone Rd. to Target Rd.)

* National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) - Damage assessment begins on houses in floodplain

Foot traffic only is allowed in other areas of the preserve currently. Crews will continue to work on repairs and open other roads as deemed safe to do so.
