Edisto River Basin Project Report - 1996
The Edisto River Basin Project (1993-1996) involved local citizens in a study process to assess the region's ecological, cultural, and economic resources and develop policy recommendations for management of resources into the future. Citizens participated in a 200-member task force and used geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze the 3,120 square-mile Edisto River Basin. In the span of three years the task force mapped areas important to their interests and crafted their recommendations.
The project was conducted by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism; with funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
