Take Palmetto Pride Where You Live Act
On April 2, 2015, Governor Nikki Haley signed into law the "Take Palmetto Pride Where You Live Act". This state-wide initiative was established to educate people about litter prevention, litter reduction, and law enforcement of littering violations. The 12 member team called the Commission will meet at least twice a year for strategic planning, campaign initiatives, education and legal regulations.
The Commission members bring distinctive knowledge and talent to help tackle the litter problem in our state:
- Department of Natural Resources—Chair
Information Clearing House & Litter law enforcement - Department of Transportation—Vice Chair
Provides mowing schedule & trash pick-up with Department of Corrections - Department of Corrections
Interstate Clean-Up Crews - Department of Probation, Parole, Pardon Services
Court of General Sessions sentencing up to 500 hours of public service - Department of Public Safety
Troopers identify litter areas & coordinate with Department of Corrections - Court Administration
Addressing the need for community service opportunities - PalmettoPride
Lead agency on Education, Enforcement, Awareness and Pickup - Keep America Beautiful - South Carolina
Lead agency for volunteer opportunities & program certification - Municipal Association of SC
Education and Information resource for the state's 270 municipalities - SC Association of Counties
Education and information resource for the state's 46 counties - SC Sheriff's Association
Litter law enforcement - SC Trucking Association
Continuing education on litter laws and securing loads
