Boating - Title and Register a Watercraft or Outboard Motor in SC
Boat with No Hull Identification Number, Motor with No Serial Number
If your boat does not have a hull identification number, you must have one assigned by SCDNR.
- Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed)
- Application for Hull Identification number
- Pictures of the right and left side of the boat, the transom (back) of the boat and the whole boat
- Fees: $20.00 New Title and Registration
If your motor does not have a serial number, you must have one assigned by SCDNR.
- Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed)
- Application for motor serial number
- Pictures of the outboard motor, left and right side
- Fees: $10.00 New Motor Title
Homemade Boats and Motors
If you have built a boat or motor from raw materials or had someone build you a boat or motor under contract this is considered a homemade boat/motor.
If you have reworked a previously manufactured boat or motor this is not considered homemade.
If you have built your own boat from raw materials:
- Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed)
- Application for Hull Identification Number
- Pictures of the right and left side of the boat, the transom (back) of the boat and the whole boat
- Fees: $20.00 New Title and Registration
If you had someone build you a boat from raw materials under contract
- Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed)
- Application for Hull Identification Number
- Pictures of the right and left side of the boat, the transom (back) of the boat and the whole boat
- Copy of the contract and bill of sale from the builder
- Certification from the builder the boat meets US Coast Guard Safety Standards
- Fees: $20.00 New Title and Registration
If you have purchased a motor kit you must provide the following:
- A copy of the receipt for the engine
- A copy of the receipt for the shaft
- A signed statement with a description of where the parts were purchased and how they were assembled
- Pictures of the right side and left side of the boat and an overall picture of the assembled motor
- Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed)
- Application for motor serial number
- Fees: $10.00 New Motor Title
