Piedmont youth fishing rodeo set May 17 in Oconee County

The popular annual youth fishing rodeo at Piedmont Forestry Center near Tamassee in Oconee County will be held Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The free day of fun and fishing is for youth 12 years of age and younger at the S.C. Forestry Commission's Piedmont Forestry Center at 151 Piedmont Nursery Road, Tamassee. Participants should pre-register online or by calling (803) 737-8483. Participants should also bring their own fishing equipment and bait.

Prizes will be awarded at the May 17 youth fishing rodeo, and free refreshments will be offered. Adults will not be allowed to fish, only youth. Fishing will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. and refreshments will be available from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

The Piedmont Forestry Center is a former S.C. Forestry Commission forest tree nursery located in the beautiful Cheohee Valley in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
