SCDNR Celebrates Grand Opening of New State Skeet and Trap Facility at Love Farm WMA
September 19, 2025
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) proudly hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony for their new State Skeet & Trap Facility at the Love Farm Wildlife Management Area on Friday, September 19.
SCDNR Director Mullikin and staff were joined by state and local leaders for the celebration, including Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, who had the honor of shooting the first clay target, along with Speaker Murrell Smith, Representative Robert Reece, Former Senator Thomas McElveen and the DNR Board.
The state-of-the-art complex at the Love Farm Wildlife Management Area features eight skeet and trap fields, a dedicated five-stand, an outdoor pavilion, and classroom space, establishing it as one of the premier tournament venues in the Southeast. Situated on 780 acres in Richland County, Love Farm WMA was purchased from the Love family in 2016 and also includes a 60-acre public dove field and three waterfowl impoundments. In addition to hosting competitive events, the new facility will be open to the public on a daily basis.
Construction of the facility began in 2022 with the support of the South Carolina General Assembly, which provided $750,000 in funding, matched by more than $5.7 million in Federal Wildlife Restoration Funds dedicated to expanding public shooting access. The project was also supported by generous donations of $200,000 from The Boyd Foundation for equipment for the range and an initial $50,000 from the National Wild Turkey Federation towards the purchase of the land.
SCDNR remains dedicated to providing safe and accessible shooting opportunities for the public, while also inspiring the next generation of outdoorsmen and women. The facility will also serve as the tournament base for SCDNR’s Scholastic Clay Target Sports (SCTS) program, which currently has approximately 760 middle and high school participants statewide. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $671,000 in college scholarships to graduating seniors who are involved in youth shotgun sports.
The State Skeet & Trap Facility is open to the public Tuesday–Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
