November 02, 2023
The head of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources has been recognized for his efforts in managing marine resources along the East Coast.
Director Robert Boyles received the Capt. David H. Hart Award in October, presented by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for his longstanding contributions to and exceptional leadership towards the sustainable management of marine resources along the eastern seaboard. The award was announced during the commission's annual meeting in Beaufort, North Carolina, on Oct. 18.
Boyles has served as SCDNR director since 2020 after having been deputy director over the Marine Resources Division. In addition to his commitment to conservation and management of marine resources within South Carolina, he is also a longtime participant in the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council and for 16 years until 2020 was a commissioner for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, including stints as chairman and vice-chair.
