Tell Us What You Think — Cobia in State Waters Survey
Cobia is a large, fast-growing fish that inhabits South Carolina coastal waters. Each year, a unique group of this fish returns to our state's southern sounds and rivers to spawn. Fishing pressure has increased over the last decade, and the best available data suggest that numbers of these cobia have decreased to a critical level.
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) biologists and the fishing community are concerned that this population could be lost. To rebuild cobia numbers in our southern sounds and rivers, DNR staff recommend decreasing the catch by a minimum of 50%.
