WEEKLY SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER 2014

December 8 - December 14, 2014

WEATHER SUMMARY:

Cold, gray conditions were observed on Monday. The thermometers at Darlington and Johnston indicated an afternoon high temperature of just 45 degrees. Areas of light rain brought Hartsville 0.28 inches, McBee 0.19 inches and the Charleston AP 0.11 inches. A boundary of reinforcing cold settled into the state on Tuesday morning. Fountain Inn reported 31 degrees and snow flurries were observed at Caesars Head. On Wednesday afternoon, McCormick, Cheraw and Mullins recorded 53 degrees. Heavy frost and hard freezes were reported on Thursday and Friday mornings for much of inland South Carolina. Pelion noted a Thursday minimum of 19 degrees. It was 24 degrees in Dillon and 27 degrees in Allendale. On Friday morning, Spartanburg reported 19 degrees and it was 24 degrees in Hemingway and Lake City. The Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station noted a Friday sunrise temperature of 30 degrees. Full sunshine and light winds allowed for slight warming on Saturday and Sunday. Union, Orangeburg and Charleston all reached a Saturday afternoon maximum temperature of 67 degrees. On Sunday, Table Rock State Park's early morning freeze of 26 degrees rose 45 degrees to a mild 71 degrees at their warmest hour. During the first two weeks of a dry December 2014, the rainfall measuring locations at Little Mountain, Columbia, Bamberg and Walterboro have received less than one-tenth of an inch. The state average temperature for the seven-day period was two degrees below the long-term average.

The highest official temperature reported was 72 degrees at Hardeeville on December 14. The lowest official temperature reported was 18 degrees at Cedar Creek on December 12. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 0.30 inches at Summerville ending at 7:00 a.m. on December 9. The state average rainfall for the seven-day period was 0.0 inches.

RIVERS AND SURF:

South Carolina river stages were near to below normal. Charleston Harbor reported a water temperature of 55 degrees and Springmaid Pier at Myrtle Beach reported a surf water temperature of 53 degrees.
