WEEKLY SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER 2014

October 20 - October 26, 2014

WEATHER SUMMARY:

Much like the weeks of October's past, it was a dry seven days of cool to cold mornings and mild to warm afternoons. The lone exception to the absence of rain was observed over Hilton Head Island when 1.87 inches of thunderstorm rain fell in the hour ending at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Kingstree, Allendale and Sullivan's Island all warmed to 81 degrees on Tuesday afternoon. Seasonal cold arrived for Wednesday. Sandy Springs reported a low of 36 degrees. At 1:00 p.m., Spartanburg, Aiken and Myrtle Beach all reported sunny skies and 64 degrees. On Thursday morning, Liberty-Pickens AP and Chesnee each recorded a freezing 32 degrees. Pelion and Cedar Creek noted 34 degrees and Walterboro cooled to 41 degrees. Afternoon temperatures reached 70 degrees at Greenwood, Sumter and Georgetown AP. Despite mid-level cloudiness passing over the state on Friday, McCormick, Columbia and Dillon all recorded a mild 73 degrees. Sunny, warming weather continued through the weekend. Greenville, Manning and Georgetown reached 75 degrees on Saturday. At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, it was 85 degrees at Florence Regional AP with a relative humidity value of just 22 percent. Walhalla's 84-degree Sunday high temperature was the same value observed at N Myrtle Beach. The state average temperature for the seven-day period was one degree below the long-term average.

The highest official temperature reported was 89 degrees at Barnwell on October 26. The lowest official temperature reported was 29 degrees at Jocassee 8WNW on October 23. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 1.91 inches at Hilton Head Island AP on October 21. The state average rainfall for the seven-day period was 0.0 inches.

RIVERS AND SURF:

South Carolina river stages were near to below normal. Charleston Harbor reported a water temperature of 71 degrees and Springmaid Pier at Myrtle Beach reported a surf water temperature of 68 degrees.
