WEEKLY SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER 2007

June 11 - June 18, 2007

WEATHER SUMMARY:

Stormy weather, courtesy of an upper level, low-pressure feature was observed through most of the workweek. Cold air aloft contributed to the unstable surface conditions in the form of widespread thunderstorms and reports of severe weather events. On Monday a weak tornado spun a path through the Blackstock community in Fairfield County. Lancaster reported hail the size of golf balls. Strong storms on Tuesday produced 1.75-inch hail at both Gaston in Lexington County and Walterboro in Colleton County. Intense rains, high winds and small hail seemed to accompany most of the convective events during the Monday through Thursday period. Cloud cover helped keep high temperatures in the 70's and lower 80's. On Friday the Columbia AP set a date record lowest maximum temperature of 70 degrees. Mostly sunny skies were enjoyed on Saturday ahead of higher humidity values and afternoon temperatures back near 90 degrees on Sunday. The state average temperature for the period was four degrees below normal.

The highest official temperature reported was 94 degrees at Jamestown on June 17. The lowest official temperature reported was 54 degrees at Hunts Bridge on the morning of June 13. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 3.78 inches at Liberty ending at 7:00 a.m. on June 12. The state average rainfall for the period was 1.7 inches.
