Matthew management focus turning to post-storm efforts, Gov. Haley saysOctober 7, 2016
Gov. Haley is turning her focus to post-storm efforts.
Gov. Nikki Haley hosted her last Friday press conference at 6 p.m., stating coordination efforts are now being shifted to planning search and rescue. Evacuees will not be able to return to their homes via access points until law enforcement officers, SCDOT crews and National Guardsmen inspect and approve re-entry.
The governor offered some last words of advice for those who have not evacuated the South Carolina coast, saying they should get to higher ground as quickly as possible and keep their cell phones charged as it is not known when power will come back on should it be lost during the storm.
There are currently 2,500 members of the National Guard working the roads and preparing for inspection and rescue efforts. Officials are continuing to monitor the Edisto, Black and Waccama rivers as they are becoming a cause for concern due to rising water levels.
Gov. Haley will host her next press conferece at 10 o’clock Saturday morning.
