February 16, 2016Heritage preserves in Horry and Marion counties partially closed due to flooding

Three heritage preserves in Horry and Marion counties have been partially closed due to heavy rains, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

Due to local rivers reaching flood stage again after heavy rains, road closures have been issued in parts of Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve and Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve in Horry County and Little Pee Dee Heritage Preserve in Horry and Marion counties. These roads will be closed until further notice.

Visitors to these heritage preserves are warned not to go around gates or barricades, as these closures are in effect for their safety.

Some areas within these three heritage preserves will remain open for vehicular access.

The public is asked to remain patient as the S.C. Department of Natural Resources takes time to make repairs and ensure public safety.
