SCDNR to host field day at Wateree River Heritage Preserve WMAAugust 15, 2016
As part of a year-long celebration of 75 years of wildlife management areas in South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is hosting a field day at Wateree River Heritage Preserve Wildlife Management Area (WRHP) near Eastover in Richland County on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The field day at the WRHP will offer a number of special programs and activities led by the DNR's wildlife section staff and other outdoor professionals. The activities will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. This event is designed to provide outdoor fun and learning for the whole family on the 3,677-acre tract of land located 17 miles east of Columbia on Highway 378 near the Eastover community. SCDNR has provided public outdoor recreation opportunities on more than 1 million acres of land across the state for more than 75 years though the WMA program.
Wateree River Heritage Preserve WMA is bordered by the Wateree River and sits on the Richland County-Sumter County line.
Participants will be able to take part in the following activities as a part of the field day:
- Bird ID walk and bird banding demo
- Reptile and amphibian programs
- Archaeology programs
- Rocket net demonstration
- Furbearer trapping demo and track casting
- Wildlife photography

There will be plenty of other activities throughout the day that are not space-limited. Pre-register for Wateree River HP/ WMA Field Day.
