Triple digit heat covered the state during the whole week. A few sites observed their highest temperatures since the record setting heat wave of September 1925. The Greenville-Spartanburg Airport tied its all-time high with 104 degrees Saturday, July 31 and Charleston Airport established an all-time record high with 105 degrees on Sunday, August 1. At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Myrtle Beach observed what is now considered a state record heat index value of 123 degrees. Late afternoon thunderstorms over the weekend were isolated in nature and brought little relief to baking topsoils. Statewide temperatures for the period averaged seven degrees above normal.

The maximum observed temperature was 109 degrees on August 1 at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. The minimum observed temperature was 62 degrees at Salem on the morning of July 27. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall was recorded at Hunts Bridge with 1.79" ending at 7:00 a.m. on August 1. Statewide rainfall for the period averaged 0.0 inches.
