WEATHER SUMMARY
The first full week of Summer started with cool mornings and sunny afternoons. Several sites recorded morning lows in the 50's. A slow rise in temperatures began on Wednesday and continued into Friday. Temperatures under a high sun angle rose into the mid-90's while air quality diminished under light winds and hazy skies. On Friday a more southerly flow returned with isolated thunderstorms which continued over the weekend. Barnwell reported wind damage from a storm Sunday night. The average statewide temperature for the period was two degrees below normal.
The highest temperature reported was 95 degrees at Jamestown on June 26. The lowest temperature was 53 degrees at Salem on the morning of June 24. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 2.14" at Effingham ending at 7:00 a.m. on June 29. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.4.”
