WEATHER SUMMARY
On Monday morning temperatures fell to at or below freezing across the western portions of the state. Several sites reported light frost. A slow warming trend began on Tuesday afternoon with 70 degree readings and by Wednesday the mercury had climbed to near 80 degrees. Clouds and scattered thundershowers passed to the south on Thursday. Aiken County reported large hail during a thunderstorm. Warming followed through the weekend with Saturday's afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-80's. Most of Sunday was warm and sunny before late evening lines of thundershowers developed over eastern counties. The statewide average temperature for the period was one degree above normal.
The highest temperature reported was 87 degrees at Orangeburg and Sandhill on April 10. The lowest temperature was 27 degrees at Chester and Salem on the morning of April 5. The heaviest 24 hour rainfall reported was 0.58" at Orangeburg ending at 7:00 a.m. on April 9. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.1.”
