Although the week began with cold mornings and afternoon high temperatures in the 50's, milder weather quickly followed. On Wednesday and Thursday the mercury climbed into the 70's. Rainshowers were reported late Thursday into early Friday. The weekend started sunny, cooler and breezy, only to end on a cloudy and wet note. Unstable air helped trigger thunderstorms with brief periods of heavy rains Sunday. Statewide temperatures for the week averaged five degrees above normal.
PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURE DATA
The maximum observed temperature was 75 degrees on January 14 at Jamestown. The minimum observed temperature was 14 degrees at Caesars Head on the morning of January 11. The heaviest 24-hour rainfall was 1.89 inches at Loris ending 7:00 a.m. on January 14. Statewide rainfall for the period averaged 0.7 inches.
