WEEKLY SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER 2016

WEATHER SUMMARY:

On Monday morning, January's cold was observed from Walhalla's 19 degrees to the 31 degrees at Edisto Beach. Anderson, Saluda and Kingstree just made it to an afternoon high temperature of 46 degrees. At 3:58 p.m., instruments at McEntire ANG AP (KMMT) recorded a relative humidity value of 17 percent. Hilton Head Island reported a Tuesday morning minimum temperature of 32 degrees. West winds of 41 mph were recorded at the Pickens County AP (KLQK) at 1:55 p.m. Charleston and Beaufort noted an afternoon high temperature of 59 degrees. More dry and freezing air entered the state into Wednesday morning. Both Whitmire and Cedar Creek reported a sunrise temperature of 23 degrees. At 4:00 p.m., Anderson and Greenville noted a relative humidity value of just 18 percent. Moncks Corner recorded a Thursday morning low temperature of 25 degrees before milder air arrived from the south. At 3:00 p.m., Columbia, Orangeburg and Charleston had reached 62 degrees. Barnwell recorded the state's highest temperature at 65 degrees. Sharp pressure falls on Friday came with wind and rain. At 11:00 a.m., Anderson, Columbia and Orangeburg all reported heavy rain. Southeast winds gusted to 46 mph at the Barnwell AP (KBNL). At 2:00 p.m., the Charleston City Waterfront Park recorded a barometric pressure value of 29.32 inches of mercury. Winds reached 43 mph at Columbia's Hamilton-Owens AP and at the Florence Regional AP. At the summit of Caesars Head in Greenville County, snow showers on Saturday morning, an estimated one-half inch, delayed the park's opening. Rainfall measurements taken on Saturday morning included 1.82 inches at Sassafras Mountain, 1.75 inches at McClellanville, 1.10 inches in Chester and 0.93 inches in Holly Hill. Southwest winds on Saturday brought fair skies and afternoon temperatures in the 60's. Both airports in Myrtle Beach reported a Saturday maximum temperature of 66 degrees. A distinct wave of colder air dropped into the state overnight with early morning thunderstorms for the central and southern coast. Edisto Beach received 0.60 inches of rain. There was a public report of a snow/rain mix with "large flakes" at around 5:00 a.m. a few miles northwest of Pageland. The Sunday high temperature of 54 degrees was shared at the Foothills region of Anderson down south to the Lowcountry's Hilton Head Island.

The highest official temperature reported was 68 degrees at Hilton Head AP (KHXD) and Walterboro AP (KRBW) on January 15 and at the Charleston AP (KCHS), Summerville AP (KDYB), Walterboro AP (KRBW) and Jamestown on January 16. The lowest official temperature reported was 16 degrees at Jocassee 8WNW on January 11. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 1.83 inches at Table Rock State Park ending at 7:00 a.m. on January 16. The state average rainfall for the seven-day period was 1.2 inches. The state average temperature for the seven-day period was near the long-term average.

RIVERS AND SURF:

South Carolina river stages were near normal. The Charleston Harbor Ravenel Bridge reported a water temperature of 55 degrees. Springmaid Pier at Myrtle Beach reported a surf water temperature of 54 degrees.
