A strong, late-season cold front pushed through the Southeast US in 1963, ushering a cold, dry airmass into the region. Stations across the state recorded morning lows in the mid to upper 30s, with some locations reporting sub-freezing temperatures.

In the wake of a cold front, morning temperatures dropped into the mid to upper 30s across much of the state in 1971, with some sites recording minimum temperatures below freezing.

In May 2011, there were unusually cold temperatures in the South Carolina Upstate due to a cold front in the early part of the month.
