S.C. Senate confirms new DNR board chairman, board member

The South Carolina Senate recently confirmed a new chairman to the S.C. Natural Resources Board, the policy making body of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Mr. D. Glenn McFadden as the new board chairman representing the 5th Congressional District.

Mr. McFadden joined Rock Hill-based Comporium, the nation’s 13th largest telecommunications company and 31st largest cable TV operator, in 1972 and now serves as its executive vice president and chief operating officer. His responsibilities include: sales, customer service, installation, maintenance, constructions, long distance, fleet management and all buildings and grounds covering York, Lancaster and Chester counties; plus, Mecklenburg and Transylvania counties in N.C.Glenn McFadden

Currently Mr. McFadden has direct bottom line responsibility for assets under management of $275 million and revenue of over $200 million per year. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was the 2006 chair of the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is chairman of the Lewisville High School Scholarship Fund, a member of the Rock Hill Rotary Club, and a member of the board of visitors at the University of South Carolina-Lancaster.

He is also an avid outdoorsman going all the way back to his childhood on the farm. When he wasn't milking cows or working cotton, he was hunting and fishing or camping near the creeks and in the fields near his home. He enjoys big game hunting, wood carving of wildfowl, knife making; as well as, mountain climbing and hiking. He has two daughters, and he currently lives on the family farm in Fort Lawn with his wife JoAnn.

Elizabeth Hood Willis of Charleston was also confirmed as a new board member representing the First Congressional District. She currently serves as the Corporate Privacy Officer for Roper St. Francis Healthcare, where she has been employed for eighteen years. Mrs. Willis is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in human resource management/marketing. She also attained a master of science degree in health administration with a certificate of gerontology and a master of business administration both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her service to residents of the Lowcountry also includes numerous boards and charities from the Trident United Way to the Junior League of Charleston.

As a Charleston native, Elizabeth has grown up enjoying and respecting nature. In particular, she has a strong affinity for hunting, fishing, and boating with friends and family. She resides in Charleston with her husband, Gardi, and their two daughters.

The Natural Resources Board meets monthly and sets policy for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The DNR is composed of five divisions: Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, Land, Water and Conservation, Law Enforcement, Outreach and Support Services and the Marine Resources Division, based in Charleston.
