Missing swimmer's body recovered Monday night

August 13, 2019

SCDNR Aquatic Investigations and Recovery (A.I.R.) dive team recovered the body of a missing swimmer Monday at approximately 8 p.m. after two days of searching.

The 21-year-old Pawleys Island man’s body was found in the vicinity of where witnesses advised he went under while swimming Sunday evening near Wacca Wache Landing.

Crews with Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County Police Department, Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue and U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the search.

The area crews were searching ranged from 5-feet deep to 20-feet deep. SCDNR dispatched six divers, as well as three boats with law enforcement officers.

We appreciate the assistance from other agencies in helping to bring the people affected some closure.

The incident remains under investigation.
