Genomics Program

Developing fish eggs

Molecular laboratories under the direction of Dr. Robert Chapman and Dr. Craig Browdy at the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are located at the new Hollings Marine Laboratory at the Fort Johnson Marine Center. We have access to the most modern biotechnology facilities, including robotics for processing samples, onsite automated sequencers, secure bioassay facilities and computing facilities. Using genetic and biochemical markers, we investigate gene expression, population genetics, host-pathogen interactions, and individual identification of fish and shellfish. Collaborations take place with scientists from all the institutions at the Fort Johnson Marine Center as well as throughout the world.
