Wildlife Rehabilitators Registry
SCDNR does not recommend or support the general public attempting to possess and rehabilitate native wildlife. Wildlife rehabilitation should only be conducted by experienced professional rehabilitators. The take and possession of wildlife species must be conducted in accordance with all applicable State laws and regulations. Additionally, possession of rabies vector species such as bats, bobcats, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, or skunks can potentially pose the life-threatening risk of rabies exposure. The possession of bears, foxes, and coyotes is prohibited without a permit. Native reptiles and amphibians may only be transferred to SCDNR permitted native reptile and amphibian rehabilitators. No permits are issued for private personal possession of wildlife. Removing an animal from the wild can lead to further injury to the animal or yourself.
If a wild animal has been injured or truly orphaned, locate an experienced wildlife rehabilitator or call the SCDNR at 803-734-3886 (Monday through Friday, 8:30AM -5:00PM) or the RadioRoom (803-955-4000) afterhours.
