Ninety Six National Historic Site was so named because Charleston traders erroneously thought the stopping place was 96 miles from the Cherokee town of Keowee. More than 200 years have passed since the fields saw battles and bloodshed, but a paved walkway provides plenty of descriptions and explanations. The mild weather during the time of our visit made it a perfect field trip for the spring.
