DNR completes new regional ocean data layers for the southeast

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Marine Resources Division has just completed a comprehensive analysis and compilation of information on biological resources and human uses in southeastern coastal waters of the U.S.

Over 60 regional data layers describing the distribution and relative abundance of many different species of fish, crustaceans, birds, mammals and various coastal activities will be able to be viewed through the Governor’s South Atlantic Alliance (GSAA) web portal or by downloading the data directly from DNR at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/GIS/gsaa.html. The GSAA web portal also has many other useful data layers that are able to be viewed by interested users. This effort was supported by a NOAA grant through the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA).

This effort was done in support of the GSAA, which was established in 2009 as a partnership between the four southeastern states (NC, SC, GA, FL), several federal agencies, academia, nonprofits, and other regional organizations.
