Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep litter cleanup set for Sept. 19
Beach Sweep/River Sweep is South Carolina's largest one-day volunteer cleanup event of its kind. Thousands of South Carolinians clear beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes and swamps of aquatic debris.
The 2009 Beach Sweep/River Sweep will take place from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 19. Coordinated by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the cleanup occurs all across the state and is held in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup.
You can help by joining a local cleanup. For more information go to the DNR or Sea Grant Web sites and check out the listings of Cleanup Sites and Site Captains. Find a cleanup near you, contact the local site captain, and offer your help.
