The partnership began when Mike Willis, communications director for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR), contacted John Boy and Billy’s manager about the possibility of having them record boating safety radio announcements for the State of South Carolina. "Within a week, a representative confirmed their participation and the boating safety messages for radio were recorded," Willis added. "They were enthusiastic about the project from the start."
The thirty second radio ads feature John Boy and Billy encouraging radio listeners to always wear a life jacket while boating, refrain from consuming alcohol while operating a boat, use a designated driver and learn how to properly operate a boat by taking a boater education course.
DNR has purchased radio air-time on John Boy and Billy radio stations throughout the state, including WMFX Fox 102 in Columbia, WROQ in Anderson, WSYN Sunny 103.1 in Myrtle Beach, WMXT The Fox in Florence, WWBD 95.7 Orangeburg, WIBZ FM in Sumter and Eagle 105.7 in Aiken.
DNR protects and manages South Carolina's natural resources by making wise and balanced decisions for the benefit of the state's natural resources and its people.
