The Map Modernization Initiative is a 5-year, billion dollar project implemented by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to update the nation’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) on a countywide basis. FEMA, the National Service Provider, DNR, and local governments are working together to successfully accomplish the goals of the Map Modernization Initiative, which is to produce an accurate picture of the flood risk, to promote responsible growth and sound floodplain management. County and municipal personnel have been previously invited to a scoping meeting to be held in each of the above-mentioned counties.
The PDCC meeting will serve to educate local officials on the Post Preliminary Phase of the Map Modernization Initiative and their responsibilities in its implementation within their jurisdiction. The Post Preliminary Phase includes the Appeals Period and Compliance Period in which localities will be required to review their recently updated flood insurance studies and update their current local flood damage prevention ordinance.
DNR protects and manages South Carolina's natural resources by making wise and balanced decisions for the benefit of the state's natural resources and its people.
