Record white-tailed deer displays highlight Harry Hampton Hunting & Fishing Expo Aug. 22-24
An all-new hunting, fishing and outdoors exposition is coming to Spartanburg and upstate South Carolina. The Harry Hampton Hunting & Fishing Expo will be held Aug. 22-24 at the Spartanburg Expo Center, 6655 Pottery Road, Spartanburg (Interstate 26, Exit 17).
The Hunting & Fishing Expo will be open from 1-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. The show's theme is "Something for Everyone...Including the Kids!"
The Expo will feature Joe Kelly & Son's impressive white-tailed deer collection. Their Outdoors collection includes some of the finest whitetails from across Northwestern United States and Canada. The display boasts whitetails scoring in the 170 to 250 range and includes a full body mount of the famous Hanson Buck, still the Typical World Record. "The Hanson Buck alone is worth the price of admission," said Kelly, author of "Joe Kelly's Tactics for Trophy Whitetail" and a seminar instructor at the Expo.
Expo visitors will get to see and hear Sammy Schrimsher, the international hunter and guide known as Grizzly Sam, along with his famous whitetail exhibit. The exhibit includes a white-tailed deer of proportions never seen in South Carolina. The massive 33-point deer rack scored a whopping 260 points on the Boone & Crockett scale. The rack was aged by Dr. David Guynn, of Clemson University, at 3 ½ years old, said Schrimsher, "the largest 3 ½-year-old whitetail in the world."
Also appearing will be Okefenokee Joe, educator and legendary folk hero, whose famous video field guide "Know Your Snakes" is used extensively by schools, colleges, hospitals, civic organizations and the United States military throughout the world.
The S.C Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be on hand with a number of exhibits and demonstrations. DNR will feature its "Take One-Make One" mobile educational trailer with indoor BB shooting ranges, virtual reality shooting and more, plus DNR will have a virtual fishing simulator set up for the thrill of catching not only freshwater species, but offshore fish as well. Rounding out the show will be booths stocked with the latest in hunting, fishing and outdoor equipment, plus boats, ATVs and more for show and sale.
