A youth dove hunt, sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service, is planned for opening day of mourning dove season in Abbeville County. Youth should pre-register Aug. 1-17, and participants are selected by drawing.
The youth dove hunt will be held the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 1 in Abbeville County on U.S. Forest Service land. A limited number of slots are available for the youth dove hunt, and pre-registration is required. To register, call the Greenwood office of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources at (864) 223-2731 from Aug. 1-17.
To be eligible, adults 21 years or older must bring one but no more that two youths, up to 17 years of age to the hunt. The adults must accompany the youths on the stand and will be responsible for monitoring their actions. Hunters are encouraged to bring at least one youth who has shown an interest in hunting but has never been given the opportunity.
