It's time for fishing rodeos and clinics! April 13, 2018

by Sarah Chabaane, SCDNR Aquatic Education Coordinator

Winter is on its way out and the warmer temperatures are just around the corner, so what better way to get outdoors for family fun than a SCDNR youth fishing rodeo or a family fishing clinic?

SCDNR fishing rodeos are for children ages six to 15

SCDNR fishing rodeos are for children ages six to 15.

For the rodeos, youth ages six to 15 must be accompanied by an adult and no adult fishing will be allowed. Pre-registration is preferred but registration is available on site for most events. Sign-in occurs 15 to 30 minutes prior to the session start time. Bring your own fishing equipment and tackle. Bait may be provided at some of the rodeos. New rodeo locations have been added this year!

SCDNR family fishing clinics are for people of all ages

SCDNR family fishing clinics are for people of all ages.

Want to get your line in the water and reel in the big one, but you don't feel confident with your angling skills? Family fishing clinics are introductory classes to fishing. The clinics are designed to introduce the basics of fishing to the young and old, or those who need a refresher to increase their future participation in the sport.

Family fishing clinics teach skills regarding how to tie a fishing knot, rig a rod and reel, and casting. The best part is everyone will get to try their hand at fishing. Family fishing clinics are free of charge. Online pre-registration is required. Please check the website regularly as clinics are posted online when scheduled.
