Public Lottery Hunts
To All Lottery Hunt Participants:
We appreciate your support of SCDNR and of the Lottery Hunt Program. We are making several very important changes to the Program that will make it more efficient, less labor intensive for us and more user-friendly.
First and foremost, we have created an on-line interface that will allow persons to apply for the hunt and pay the fee on the SCDNR website. We will still allow paper applications this year but in the very near future, all applications will be made online or at the walk-up windows at one of the four Regional SCDNR offices. We encourage all applicants to use the online application option which can be found at the SCDNR website.
Second, you will find a "non-draw" option on the application that will allow you to apply and acquire a preference point but you will not be considered for selection. This will benefit those who know that they will not be available for the hunts in the current year but want to maintain their preference history and be considered for selection the following year.
Third, the Resident Temporary Wildlife Management Area Permit that has been offered to all lottery hunters will now only be offered for the ½ day hunts (waterfowl and turkey). Those who apply and are selected for the other hunts must possess a regular Wildlife Management Permit at the time they hunt. Remember that the Wildlife Management Area Permit is included in the Sportsman License, Junior Sportsman License and Gratis- over 64 License. A Wildlife Management Area Permit is not required of anyone under the age of 16.
Finally, we will only notify the primary applicant of the lottery results. Whether selected or not, the notification of the results will only be mailed to the first applicant on the application. The team members will be listed and selected primary applicants will receive hunt instructions. In the near future, you will see the option of getting the notification by email. We encourage applicants to use this option when it becomes available so we can minimize postage. We will continue toward a goal of all applications and notifications being conducted through the internet.
Again, we appreciate your support and encourage you to introduce someone to the outdoors.
The Public Lottery Hunts (PLH) program is one means by which the Wildlife Section of the SCDNR (South Carolina Department of Natural Resources) works to provide hunting opportunity to the general public. This program provides hunting opportunities to the public on lands managed intensively for wildlife. The program has experienced growth since its inception with the addition of hunt sites, hunt dates, applicant numbers, and species hunted.
The PLH program is a multi faceted effort. The success of the PLH program lies in the ability of DNR staff to treat each applicant fairly and equitably without bias. The PLH program serves as a hunter recruitment and retention tool because the program provides a quality hunting experience for novice and seasoned hunters, both youth and adult, female and male on managed lands.
