The generalized geology map shows an overview of the geology of South Carolina. More detailed geologic maps can be found on the publications page.

Overview

Geologic mapping in the state of South Carolina has been done at a variety of scales; however, the standard scale of geologic maps produced in South Carolina is 1:24,000, or one 7.5 minute quadrangle. The map application provides an interactive overview of the geology of South Carolina. It shows simplified geologic units of the state that were created from generalizing more detailed, larger scale information. The descriptions of these units reveal the types of rocks and sediments that you may find there. (A PDF and an image of the information found in the map application are also available.)
