New Publication Available!

New! Map Series 28 Located in the Mountain Bridge area, surrounding Lakes Jocassee and Keowee, the geology of Salem and Reid quadrangles has been mapped at 1:24,000-scale. The Piedmont geology in the Mountain Bridge area is complex, and this publication reveals the nature of the complexity. Diagrams, geologic sections, and pictures are also included illustrating the geologic framework of the area.

The S.C. Geological Survey develops, catalogs, publishes and distributes information on South Carolina's geology. Available as publications and Open-File material, this information is used by many segments of the public and private sectors.

In addition to the titles listed, many publications pertaining to South Carolina geology are available for inspection at our office. This literature file contains journal articles, theses, dissertations and state and federal publications.

Out-of-print publications are designated by (op); out-of-print publications are available for inspection at our office and can be photocopied here. Certain government publications are available for inspection only at our office. Office hours are M-F 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Another useful source for available geologic maps in South Carolina can found at the U.S. Geological Survey's National Geologic Map Database web site.  Maps produced by the South Carolina Geological Survey, as well as other organizations and individuals, are contained in this database.  Searches can be customized using several keys, such as location, author, publisher, scale, or map type.

There is a 6% sales tax on the sub-total of publications ordered. Cash (not by mail), checks, and money orders are all acceptable methods of payment.  We do not accept credit cards at this time. Open-File Maps and Reports

Most geologic mapping for the Coastal Plain reports is supplemented by auger drilling. The drill logs are available to the public at a cost of $0.25/page for photocopies.
The majority of Open-File Reports are produced as photocopies of original mylar drafts.  Newly developed digital maps are replacing these older products.  Photocopies of older versions may be available upon request.
