SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER AND CLIMATE

WEATHER SUMMARY

Fall weather made its presence known throughout the week. A series of cold fronts dropped into the state providing very cool mornings and mostly sunny, blue skies. Early morning temperatures in the 30's were observed over the upstate and into the northern midlands. Measurable rain was absent as each passing front only served to reenforce the cool, dry conditions. The annual State Fair began on Thursday with sunny, cool weather. Over the weekend southerly winds helped push warmer air back into the state with mid-70 degree and low 80 temperatures being reported. The average statewide temperature for the period was seven degrees below normal.

The highest temperature reported was 84 degrees at Johnston on October 4. The lowest temperature was 37 degrees at Salem on the morning of September 30. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.0".

RIVERS AND SURF South Carolina river stages were near to below normal. Surf temperatures at Myrtle Beach and Savannah will average around 71 degrees.
