WEATHER SUMMARY:

A parcel of early, fall-like air cooled the Conway morning temperature on Monday to 55 degrees. The Sullivan's Island minimum temperture of 65 degrees was that location's lowest value since May 23. Little Mountain, Florence and Charleston AP all reported a Monday high temperature of 86 degrees. Holly Hill recorded a sunrise temperature on Tuesday of 60 degrees. Dry heat returned on the mountains' descending winds with afternoon temperatures climbing to a hot 95 degrees at Anderson AP and Clemson AP. This pattern continued on Wednesday with the expansion of heat moving to the coast. At 2:00 p.m., the Clemson-Oconee AP noted 96 degrees with 24 percent releative humidity. Greenville, Whitmire and Hilton Head Island all reached an out-of-season 95 degrees. Sunny skies on Thursday kept the heat in place. The thermometer at Sandy Springs and Clarks Hill registered 96 degrees and Chesnee, Johnston and Cades all came in with 95 degrees. Saluda reported a Friday afternoon temperature of 95 degrees and its 40th observation of at least 95 degrees since June 12. Rock Hill AP noted a Saturday maximum temperature of 95 degrees and Table Rock, Laurens and McCormick all shared 94 degrees. Scattered thundershowers on Sunday developed on a weakening boundary draped across the southern counties and over to the north coast. Galivant's Ferry measured 0.57 inches of rain, all of which fell within 30 minutes. Sunday's high temperatures ranged from 78 degrees at Sassafras Mt. to 95 degrees at Hilton Head Island.

The highest official temperature reported was 98 degrees at Kings Mountain National Military Park on September 7. The lowest official temperature reported was 53 degrees at Jocassee 8WNW on September 6. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 0.85 inches at the USGS Waccamaw River above Conway on September 11. The state average rainfall for the seven-day period was 0.1 inches. The state average temperature for the seven-day period was four degrees above the long-term average.
