WEATHER SUMMARY

The seemingly never ending pattern of daily afternoon thunderstorms continued as South Carolina remained in a moist avenue of convergence along the east coast. Storms on Monday produced Flash flooding in both Beaufort and Berkeley Counties while areas in the upstate reported high winds. Torrential rains fell over Greer just after midnight on Wednesday with almost three inches falling in one hour. Greenville and Spartanburg noted flash flooding. Other scattered storms caused high winds in Newberry and large hail in Oconee County. The National Weather Service at Greer has already received what is considered their normal yearly rainfall. The week ended with partly sunny skies and widely scattered thunderstorms. The average statewide temperature for the period was two degrees below normal.

The highest temperature reported was 92 degrees at Edisto Beach on August 7. The lowest temperature was 60 degrees at Caesars Head on the morning of August 8. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 3.48" at Greer ending at 7:00 a.m. on August 7. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 1.4".

RIVERS AND SURF

South Carolina river stages were above normal. Surf temperatures at
Myrtle Beach and Savannah will average around 78 degrees.
