WEATHER SUMMARY

Summer type weather was in full swing during the week with afternoon temperatures in the 90's and scattered thunderstorms almost daily. High pressure, centered over the central Atlantic Ocean, circulated warm, tropical air into the state making it feel hotter and more humid. Rapidly developing storms on Wednesday caused heavy rains, hail and high winds over the Midlands. There were isolated hail and wind reports in Spartanburg and Florence Counties. Mostly sunny weather was observed through the weekend. Moist southerly winds combined with high temperatures to produce heat index values of 106 degrees in Summerville on Sunday. The average statewide temperature for the period was two degrees above normal.

The highest temperature reported was 94 degrees at Jamestown and Hartsville on June 10. The lowest temperature was 52 degrees at Salem on the morning of June 10. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 3.04" at Jamestown ending at 7:00 a.m. on June 9. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.6".

RIVERS AND SURF

South Carolina river stages were near to above normal.
Surf temperatures at Myrtle Beach and Savannah will average around 79 degrees.
