SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER AND CLIMATE

WEATHER SUMMARY

A general west to east flow in the upper atmosphere made for a seasonable week of weather. Several passing boundaries generated a mix of clouds and showers. Dense fog was observed near sunrise throughout the state early in the week. A cold front approached the southern states over the weekend. Scattered thundershowers were reported before clearing and colder temperatures ended the week. For the period, the state average temperature was three degrees above normal.

The highest official temperature reported was 77 degrees at Jamestown on February 16. The lowest official temperature reported was 22 degrees at Caesars Head on the morning of February 19. The heaviest 24-hour rainfall reported was 1.01 inches at West Pelzer ending at 7:00 a.m. on February 15. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.9 inches.

SOIL: 4 inch depth average soil temperature: Columbia 58 degrees.

RIVERS AND SURF: South Carolina river stages were near normal. Surf temperatures at Myrtle Beach and Savannah will average around 55 degrees.
