WEATHER SUMMARY

Winter tightened its grip as the new year began. Daily temperatures early in the week averaged around 16 degrees below normal. On Wednesday morning, minimum temperatures upstate and in a few of the usual colder sites fell into the single digits. Thin ice was observed on ponds and small lakes from the midlands and north. Arctic high pressure slowly drifted east at the start of the weekend allowing temperatures to return to seasonal normals. Statewide temperatures for the period averaged ten degrees below normal

PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURE DATA

The maximum temperature was 64 degrees at Kingstree on January 7. The minimum temperature was 5 degrees at Lake Bowen on the morning of January 3. Statewide average rainfall for the period was 0.0".
