WEATHER SUMMARY

Mostly sunny days with afternoon temperatures in the 50's and 60's ended the year of 1999. With the exception of north coastal counties yearly rainfall totals were well below normal. The new century began quite mild with southerly winds making it feel more like early spring. Sunday afternoon temperatures warmed into the lower 70's. Statewide temperatures for the period averaged three degrees above normal.

The maximum observed temperature was 72 degrees on January 2 at Jamestown and Loris. The minimum observed temperature was 18 degrees at Blackville on the morning of December 28.
