WEATHER SUMMARY:

Mild weather was observed on Monday, December 26. The Mount Pleasant AP reported a high temperature of 68 degrees. Dense fog, a signal of warm, moist air condensing over cooler surfaces, was noted on Tuesday morning. Sandhill and McCormick reached a Tuesday afternoon high temperature of 73 degrees. The Lowcountry's Johns Island recorded 72 degrees on Wednesday well ahead of a southeastward-moving cold front at the mountains. Thunderstorms developed before sunrise on Thursday morning leaving rainfalls of 1.80 inches at Prosperity, 1.14 inches at Lake Wylie and 0.81 inches at Table Rock State Park. West winds gusted to 44 mph at Anderson AP, 48 mph at the McEntire ANG AP and 49 mph at the Beaufort County AP. At 8:08 p.m., the thermometer at Sassafras Mountain indicated 32 degrees. The Thursday high temperature of 68 degrees at Moncks Corner dropped to 34 degrees on Friday morning. Cedar Creek's Saturday sunrise temperature fell to 24 degrees before climbing to 48 degrees. Passing showers on Saturday included public reports of sleet at Lake Keowee, Lyman and Blythewood. The December 2016 rainfall ranged from 6.80 inches at Summerville to 2.04 inches at Anderson AP. The 2017 New Year arrived on Sunday with a nearly stationary boundary separating cloudy, wet weather north of the Midlands to partly sunny, mild conditions to the south. At 3:00 p.m., Greenwood reported rain and 46 degrees while, at the same time, it was partly sunny and 68 degrees at Hilton Head Island.

The highest official temperature reported was 76 degrees at Summerville on December 27. The lowest official temperature reported was 22 degrees at Union on December 31. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 1.16 inches at the Greenville-Spartanburg AP on December 29. The state average rainfall for the seven-day period was 0.8 inches. The state average temperature for the seven-day period was six degrees above the long-term average.
