Freezing temperatures don't slow down Dixie Hornet Anglers

There was sleet, snow, rain and freezing temperatures on Feb. 16th when 26 Dixie High School (Due West) Hornet Anglers conducted a tournament on Lake Greenwood.

Conway High School anglers host, win Bass-Redfish Tournament

For the second time this season the Conway High School anglers hosted and won the same tournament. Their latest victory was on April 28 fishing out of Georgetown and the Sampit River with two categories to win (bass and redfish)
Anderson leads TL Hanna High School to Another South Carolina High School Fishing State Championship
Hampton Anderson has become synonymous with winning the South Carolina High School State Bass Fishing Championship. With his partner from last year graduating, the young star recruited the services of his new partner Eli Rowland to capture this year’s event on Greenwood Lake.

High schools around the Palmetto State are on the cusp of requesting the South Carolina High School League sanction High School Fishing as a varsity sport. The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) asks all those interested in forming a league to join us for a meeting on Saturday, April 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Capital City/Lake Murray Country office located at 2184 North Lake Drive in Columbia.

As a sport, it just seems a little, well, fishy. But several local Upstate high schools, including Dorman, have followed the lead of Bassmasters and newly created Major League Fishing and are testing the waters in the hopes of becoming a sport sanctioned by the S.C. High School League.
